1st Place Winner in 2024 GISCI Map Contest!

The results are in! I'm honored to have been chosen as the 1st Place winner in the professional category in the GIS Certification Institute GISCI 2024 Map Contest. My map, "Bicycle and Pedestrian Crashes Map" was produced as part of a series for the City of Durango's recently published Multimodal Plan Update, which guides the implementation of a multimodal transportation network.

Bicycle and Pedestrian Crashes Map

The Bicycle and Pedestrian Crashes Map helps to illustrate that many crashes occurred at intersections and along arterial roads, and that the main thoroughfare through the City acts as an obstacle to multimodal traffic. With this map, City planners could identify at a glance where bicycle and pedestrian connections are needed, as well as where protected bicycle lanes or parallel corridors could help mitigate crashes.

Remarkable skill, innovation, and dedication to the craft of cartography.
— Tony Spicci, GISCI Executive Director

This map was one of a map series included in the Multimodal Plan Report. Other maps included Corridors and Connections, Existing Bicycle and Existing Pedestrian Network, Existing Street Network, and Existing Transit Network.

The map will be prominently featured in the map gallery at the 2024 Esri User Conference in San Diego July 15-19, the world’s largest GIS conference!
